Critical Readings

This course covers methods for before, during, and after reading, including how to assess the author, how to skim the text, and determine a purpose for reading; how to read actively by making marginal annotations, noting emotional responses, and keeping track of key terms; and how to review main ideas and arguments and compare them with other sources. There is practice in analyze the “theme” and “rheme” of text as part of discourse analysis.
